Thai massage vs oil massage: which should you choose?

By Oasia Wellness · 1 October 2026

Choose Thai massage if you want firm pressure and stretching, fully clothed and without oil. Choose an oil massage if you want slow, gliding strokes and to switch off completely. At Oasia Wellness both are done in a private room, and both run for 90 minutes (the Essential Oil Massage is 60).

What Thai massage feels like

Thai massage is active. The therapist presses along the body with palms, thumbs and forearms, and moves your arms, legs and back through a series of stretches. You stay dressed in the treatment wear we provide, and no oil is used. Expect to feel looser and a little taller afterwards. It suits desk workers, stiff shoulders and tight muscles after exercise.

What an oil massage feels like

An oil massage is quiet. The therapist uses essential oils and long, gliding strokes over the back, shoulders, arms and legs, at a slower pace than Thai massage. Many guests drift off. Our Essential Oil Massage is 60 minutes; the Aroma Therapy Massage is the 90-minute version.

Hot Stone Aroma Therapy adds warm stones to the oil massage. The heat helps muscles let go faster, which makes it our deepest relaxation treatment. Tell us when booking if you are sensitive to heat.

Common questions

Is Thai massage painful?

It is firm, and some stretches feel intense, but it should not hurt. Tell your therapist to ease off at any time.

Which is better for stiff shoulders from desk work?

If you like firm pressure and stretching, Thai Stretch Massage. If you would rather relax into it, an aromatherapy massage. We also have a Neck & Shoulder Relief treatment that pairs a foot massage with focused neck and shoulder work.

Can I shower after an oil massage?

Yes, all our outlets have private showers.

Can I have these massages while pregnant?

Sorry, we don't offer treatments during pregnancy.
